The recent worldwide health epidemic means the majority of us no longer have access to fitness facilities. As a result this has created a lot of anxiety and uneasiness; especially for those who rely on fitness as a method of self-care.
If this describes you, don’t worry — we’ve got your back! Check out our 5 self-care tips to get you through self-quarantine.
1) Mindset is everything
Although you may not be able to blow off steam at the gym, there are many other ways to maintain a positive mindset. We highly recommend meditation. It’s easy, convenient, cost-effective and one of the quickest ways to alter your mental state. In times of uncertainty, it’s especially important to manage your mindset. We recommend downloading a meditation app to your smart phone such as Breathe or Calm. You can also listen to a motivational podcast or an audio book while doing chores, going for a walk or batch cooking healthy meals. If you live alone, podcasts are also a great way to feel connected.
2) Try out some new recipes
Cooking is a great way to de-stress while nourishing your body on the inside. Now that you have some extra time on your hands, it’s the perfect opportunity to brush up on your culinary skills. Need some new recipes ideas? Download our free guide filled with healthy, happiness-inducing recipes. To avoid getting sick, make sure you stay well-hydrated, eat a variety of fruits and vegetables and well-balanced meals. Although it may be temping to order-in or indulge in sugar and alcohol when you’re stuck at home, it’s important to avoid these foods. Not only will they sabotage your health and fitness goals, but they’ll also have a negative effect on your mood and energy levels.
3) Stay Busy
Do you have some chores you’ve been putting off? Are there a few closets you need to sort out? Or perhaps it’s time to do some spring cleaning? If you have extra time on your hands, it’s important to keep busy with tasks. More importantly, this will keep you out of the kitchen! Many of us snack when we’re bored. So when you stay busy, you’re less likely to partake in mindless eating.
4) Catch up on rest
Did you know your body requires adequate rest to burn body fat and build lean muscle mass? If you’re stuck at home in self-quarantine, it’s the perfect time to catch up on rest. Or maybe you will simply use this time to slow down. It’s a great opportunity to watch some Netflix, read a good book, have meaningful conversations with loved ones, play a board game or listen to an uplifting podcast.

5) Make sure you move!
Now more than ever, it’s important to move your body. Stress is at an all-time high due to job layoffs, fear about getting sick, feeling isolated from friends and family and an overall sense of uncertainty in the world. We realize your budget might be tight, you have limited access to gym equipment and you are likely stuck at home. We recommend you stay on track with our free No-Excuse Wallet-Sized Workout! Or take your workout outdoors. Go for a hike, walk or jog. Fresh air is a great way to boost your mood. Just be sure to keep your distance from others to avoid contracting Covid-19.
